How it all began...

One day I woke up and realized I was in trouble. I had been keeping a detailed food and health journal for the past two years, trying desperately to diagnose my pain, but nothing was working. I was suffering from non-stop headaches and migraines.

During this two year battle, I kicked my positive thinking into uber high gear and managed to maintain a good career and relationships with my husband, family and friends. But I was getting tired of the facade. I was loosing my patience to sit through another dinner party with a throbbing headache, and I couldn't muster up the energy to fake another gleeful evening with my friends playing Rockband on Playstation. This pain battle was seriously kicking my butt.

This is my blog about how I, a 34-year old woman in relatively good shape and spirit, kept in pursuit of answers until I found what I was looking for. No way was I going to be medicated. I knew there had to be a cure to this madness if I just kept looking.

Over the course of two-years, I visited 13 health care professionals until I gained enough wisdom to take my health into my own hands. After all, there was no one who cared as much about me than me. As I write each chapter in this blog (be patient...I'm a slow writer), I will describe the conversations I had with each of the health care providers and what I learned from each of the visits and how I slowly started to put all of the peices together.

...medical doctor, dermatologist, psychologist, allergist, ergonomist,
pharmacist, dentist, massage therapist, urgent care doctor, naturopath, optometrist, yoga, and finally...Google research.

Today I am happy to report that I am headache free! (except for the occassional hormonal headache, which as a woman, there is no way I'm ever going to get around that one). I hope that by writing this blog, it will help others to see that there is a way out from the head pain and you do not have to become medicated. It was alarming to me how much medication was pushed on me, and I fear that our medical system has lost the ability to truely examine a patient to help find the 'cause' of a problem. Discovering what works for you is a big journey--it takes time-- but I am living proof that you can get there through determination, exercise, a good diet (especially elimination of crappy stuff) and a positive attitude!

Peace,
Stacey
